Summer at the Clubs

As of this newsletter release, most of the snow has melted off the golf courses, the trails are poking through in spots, and the clubs, Moonlight Basin and Spanish Peaks, are on a full push for summer.

Moonlight Basin

“Every year our summer activities get more popular,” says Moonlight Basin Assistant General Manager Greg Wagner. It’s no wonder. Last year 200 kids took part in Camp Moonlight which is open for pre registration by the day or by the week or by the summer. Each week’s activities are built on a new theme like Paws, Claws, and Jaws; Mad Scientists, A Bug’s Life and more, so it never gets old. Older kids can also partake in guided multi-night backpacking trips in Yellowstone National Park with Moonlight Outfitters’ fully permitted and trained crew. “The camps aren’t just for Moonlight member families,” says Wagner. “Local families with kids in the schools can apply for sponsorships supported by Moonlight Community Foundation. We cap it at 50 kids a week and fill up. It’s an amazing experience.”

Moonlight’s Outfitter activities kick off June 10th and include 3D Archery (guided or DIY), paddleboarding and the water trampoline on Ulery’s Lake, plus swimming lessons and, of course, a ton of mountain biking—Moonlight is building a new fleet of demo bikes. Or try your hand at the Uplands Sporting Clays shooting course. The club is adding a clay pigeon league this summer. The Moonlight Outfitter is also your jumping off point for exploring Yellowstone. Start with the guided excursion on the Grand Tour Loop, which includes stops and short hikes at all the major bucket list sites.

Looking for some fitness classes? Moonlight’s offerings are growing there too with multiple instructors now on staff, and yoga, pilates, spin, and kickboxing classes on the itinerary.

Golf on Moonlight’s Jack Nicklaus course is naturally the biggest draw for many, and for the competitive set there’s a new event that just might satisfy. The County Line Classic pits Moonlight Basin members against the Spanish Peaks crowd on the other side of the mountain. Twelve men and four women from each club will square off for a day on each course including the equally impressive Signature Tom Weiskopf 18. “It’s going to be a real fun event for passionate golfers,” says Wagner. “Those are two incredible courses and communities.”

Spanish Peaks

Golf is also on the steady diet at Spanish Peaks this summer. All the fan favorite tournaments are back and the die-hards are gearing up for the County Line tournament too. Meanwhile, Spanish Peaks is still pushing forward on its ever expanding summer recreation goals.

A range of Yellowstone National Park outings are on the docket. Look for them on select Wednesdays every two weeks starting June 21. The guides know Yellowstone and on each outing they’ll focus on a different aspect of the national treasure next door, from wildlife to geysers.

Closer to home, look for an ongoing Intro to Pickleball Class and a series of Tennis Socials, also a skills clinic called Jack and Drills. Round it out with Yoga on the Deck every Wednesday morning (reservations are best), fly casting clinics, and couples competitions on the golf course.

For the kids, there’s camp life. Registration opens May 19th for day-long affairs spent horseback riding, river rafting, hiking, plus an endless array of Montana themed learning. Registration is through the Spanish Peaks portal. It opens Friday May 19th and sports two age divisions, the 5–7 Wranglers and the 8–12 Outlaws. The camps start June 26 and run through August 11th, 9 to 4 Monday through Friday.

“Spanish Peaks Member Nights at Montage Big Sky also are back after a successful winter launch,” says Spanish Peak Mountain club Membership Manager Rose Gallagher. “The socials invite Spanish Peaks members to get an exclusive look at the Montage. The key dates are July 18th at Mountain Lawn; August 2 at Backcast, and August 12th at Beartooth—the bowling alley, which is a hoot.”

It’s a full lineup at the clubs. But we haven’t even hit the highlights yet. On July 29th the Spanish Peaks Community Foundation is sponsoring its Singer Songwriter Summer Concert featuring Chris DeStefano, Ashley Gorley, and Kelley Lovelace. And looking further ahead, to send off the warm weather in style, Moonlight Basin is launching its inaugural Harvest Moon Festival in October. Think end of season BBQ with lots of games and an Octoberfest feel. Stay tuned to the Lone Mountain Land Company Dispatch for more.
